For my latest project I needed to understand amateur film-making from a particular time in recent history and picked up a copy of the Super 8 Handbook, by George D. Glenn & Charles B. Scholz from Amazon.

IMAG0063The edition that arrived was published in 1980. It has a pretty funky cover but I most a pleased to find the check-out record sheet from Nottinghamshire Central Library still in place (book last withdrawn 22. Jul 97), along with a bus ticket for Trent buses, dated 11:12 22 JUL 97.

I get a lot of pleasure from knowing a book’s history in this way, and to know that someone last read this particular book eighteen years ago.

Currently reading: The Silence, by Tim Lebbon. This UK set horror opens with a hoard of flying monsters escaping from a just-revealed cave in Eastern Europe who destroy everything in their path as they make their way across the continent. Superlative monster fiction… thus far.
